Health minister warns against blocking one-hour early leave for pregnant staff

: Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad has stressed that all health facilities must strictly adhere to regulations that require staff that are 22 weeks pregnant to leave work one hour early.

“I must emphasise, as Minister, I want whatever is set as regulations to be complied with. Therefore, I do not want anyone, especially those with authority such as Heads of Department, supervisors, and so on, to take steps contrary to the regulations. I remind everyone of this,” he said.

He was speaking in a press conference after the Cancer Care Closer to the Community Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between the Health Ministry and Roche Malaysia today.

Dzulkefly acknowledged staffing shortages at health facilities but maintained this was not an excuse to disregard established rules.

He added that compliance and adherence to the rules apply to all staff, including those employed under the MyStep scheme, and urged anyone affected to lodge a report.

Previously, it was reported by an online portal that a government Health Clinic in allegedly only allow staff that are 36 weeks pregnant to leave early, against a Public Service Department (PSD) circular published in 2017 that mandates leaving early for those 22 weeks pregnant.
