PETALING JAYA:

A recently formed party in Sabah has set its sights on contesting 55 seats in the state election, with its leader, Jismit Japong, eyeing the post of chief minister.

Jismit said Parti Gemilang Anak Sabah, which was registered in April, was ready to contest all 73 state seats if there is strong demand from the people and credible candidates.

He said he would contest the Klias seat, currently held by Isnin Aliasnih of PGRS, a deputy minister in the GRS-led state government. Jismit secured only 86 votes in a six-cornered contest in the 2020 elections.

Jismit said the party had no plans to challenge presidents of other local parties in their strongholds, with the exception of Lamag, where he claims grassroots support is strong.

Lamag is the seat of Sabah chief Bung Moktar Radin, who was elected with a majority of 661 votes in a five-way contest in the 2020 state election.
