KUALA LUMPUR:

Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut) has been officially reappointed as opposition leader by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul.

In today’s sitting, Johari said Hamzah was chosen to replace Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar (PN-Kemaman).

Hamzah served as opposition leader after the 2022 general election, stepping down in April amid internal turmoil in Bersatu.

Samsuri, the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman and Terengganu menteri besar, was subsequently named to the post.

Hamzah’s return follows uncertainty within the opposition bloc after his sacking from Bersatu in February.

The issue raised questions over who commanded the support of the majority of opposition MPs, amid tensions between Bersatu and .

On Saturday, Johari said he received a letter from Bersatu president Yassin (PN-Pagoh) confirming Hamzah’s position as opposition leader and requesting changes to the seating arrangements in the Dewan Rakyat, including ‘s seat.

, who sat next to Hamzah in Block G when the Dewan Rakyat last met in March, now sits in Block E next to Radzi Jidin (PN-).
