The Malaysia International Halal Showcase (Mihas) is on track to achieving its target of RM4.5 billion in sales after recording RM4.1 billion in revenue over the first two days, says investment, trade and industry minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz.
Speaking to reporters during the launch of the Global Halal Summit 2025 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre here today, Tengku Zafrul said Mihas has generated nearly RM30 billion in sales since it was first held in 2004.
The showcase drew more than 43,000 visitors last year, resulting in a total sales of over RM4.3 billion.
He said 300 global buyers from 80 countries are taking part in this year’s event, which runs from Sept 17 to 20, and is expected to attract about 45,000 visitors.
Some Palestinian food products exempt from duties
Tengku Zafrul said Malaysia has agreed in principle to exempt certain Palestinian agricultural and food products from customs duties as part of Malaysia’s commitment to support Palestine’s economic recovery and to strengthen bilateral trade.
He said Malaysia stands firmly behind Palestine to help rebuild its economy, and is looking forward to working closely with its Palestinian partners to deliver tangible mutual benefits.
Bernama reported him as saying this at the signing of an MoU on trade and economic cooperation between the ministry’s secretary-general Hairil Yahri Yaacob and Palestinian ambassador to Malaysia Walid Abu Ali.
Hel said the MoU reflects both countries’ shared vision to boost trade and investment, particularly in sectors such as the halal industry, digital economy, and small and medium-sized enterprises.
The MoU provides for cooperation in trade, investment and economic development, including training, exchange of expertise and promotion of private sector partnerships.
It also covers the development of industrial zones and cooperation in sectors such as halal products, tourism, energy and digital economy.
