PENAMPANG, Sept 13 (Bernama) — Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has ordered the expedited repair of roads damaged in a recent landslide, particularly the Jalan Penampang-Tambunan stretch, to ensure public safety and uninterrupted traffic to the interior.
He instructed the Sabah Public Works Department (JKR), the concessionaire company, and related agencies to deploy additional machinery and commence 24-hour operations to ensure the prompt restoration of two-way traffic.
“I surveyed the road that collapsed from the hillside. Only one lane is passable. We ask for the patience and understanding of motorists and the local community during this time,” he told reporters after inspecting the site in Kampung Pogunon today.
Hajiji emphasised that power lines severed by the landslide would also be restored immediately, saying he would contact the chief executive officer of Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd to resolve the matter.
He further directed the Sabah Water Department and its contractors to ensure a swift return to normal clean water supply for the affected area.
The Chief Minister also expressed his profound sympathy to the family of the victim who died when a house was buried in the landslide.
“I assure them that immediate aid will be disbursed,” he added.
