MARANG: Pas will take over the leadership of Perikatan Nasional (PN) following Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation as chairman, says Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.
Hadi said the party will hold a special meeting next week to select a new chairman, adding, however, that the post will not be filled by a Bersatu leader.
“Pas has many suitable candidates, including politicians and technocrats,” he told reporters after a lecture at Masjid Rusila.
“What is certain is that the chairman will be from among PAS leaders.”
Hadi was asked to comment on suggestions that he was the most suitable candidate to lead the coalition.
He added that it was up to Bersatu leaders whether they would attend the special meeting.
He said ties between Pas and Bersatu remained good despite the resignation of Muhyiddin and several PN state chairmen.
