GEORGE TOWN: A 15-year-old boy from Sarawak suffered a serious injury after hitting his head on a metal bar at a playground in Gurney Bay, with blood flowing from the gash onto the obstacle course.
The student, who was on holiday in Penang with his schoolmates, had gone to the park for sightseeing when the incident occurred at about 6pm.
According to an eyewitness, the boy was running up a large obstacle course when he struck a horizontal metal bar above his head.
The impact caused a deep gash, and blood was seen flowing from his head as he lay on the ground.
Passersby, including his friends and teacher, rushed to help before an ambulance arrived.
It was learnt that the three-storey-high obstacle course, which was undergoing maintenance on its upper levels, was still open to the public at the time.
The attraction has since been sealed off.
