KUALA KRAI: What was meant to be the happiest day of his life turned into an unforgettable moment in a hospital ward for Che Muhammad Rifqi Danial Che Alias, who had to recite his marriage vows from a hospital bed after being involved in a road accident just days before his wedding.
Despite his condition, Che Muhammad Rifqi, 25, and his bride, Nur Sufia Amalin Che Ramli, 26, went ahead with their solemnisation ceremony (akad nikah), which took place last Friday in Ward 6C of the Orthopaedics Unit at the Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital (HSIP) in Kuala Krai.
Nur Sufia Amalin said her husband, who works as a supervisor at a car accessories shop, suffered a broken thigh and jaw after his motorcycle collided with a car while on his way to work in Banggol Kulim on Sept 1.
“He is still receiving treatment and is scheduled to undergo surgery to insert metal plates in his thigh and jaw tomorrow. I pray everything goes smoothly,” she said when contacted.
As all preparations for the wedding had been long in the works, both families decided to proceed with the nikah ceremony as planned.
“HSIP, through its ‘Hospital Mesra Ibadah’ initiative, kindly gave us approval and provided a special space to ensure our nikah could take place smoothly,” she said.
Recounting the ceremony, Nur Sufia Amalin shared that it was conducted in a dedicated space in the hospital, attended by both their parents and official witnesses.
“We chose to continue with the ceremony because all arrangements had been made months in advance.
“Moreover, the date was chosen long ago, and we felt blessed to proceed with it as it coincided with Maulidur Rasul (Prophet Muhammad’s birthday).
“My husband couldn’t move, so we didn’t wear traditional wedding attire. The ceremony was kept simple,” she added.
Although the groom remains hospitalised, the wedding feast was held as scheduled at her grandmother’s house in Pahi, as guests had already been invited.
“For now, we haven’t decided whether we’ll hold a formal wedding reception later, as my husband is expected to take several months to recover fully.
“Alhamdulillah, what matters most is that the akad nikah went smoothly.
“I’d also like to thank the hospital staff for their tremendous help in facilitating everything,” she said.
