Govt seeks land donations to boost affordable housing rollout

TELUK INTAN: The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) is urging private developers to contribute land to the government to facilitate integrated development projects under the People’s Residential Programme (PRR).

Its minister, Nga Kor Ming, said a similar offer to state governments providing land for free to the federal government for PRR housing has so far secured 32 parcels.

Nga, who is also the Teluk Intan MP, said the win-win formula involves state governments providing land for free, while the federal government develops integrated housing projects on the donated sites.

“Now I’m opening this opportunity to private housing developers … not just state governments, but any developer who wants to donate land to the government, we are willing to accept it.

“Starting this year, all PRR projects must be integrated developments with various facilities unlike before,” he told reporters after opening PR1MA Teluk Intan Township Project and Sales Gallery here today.

Nga said the policy offers a win-win approach: the state provides land, the federal government develops housing, and the people benefit.

The PRR homes in urban areas are not sold but rented out at a very low rate of RM124 per month, he said.

Nga said PRR units in rural areas adopt a rent-to-own concept with prices as low as RM60,000.

Meanwhile, Nga said the first PRR in Perak, located in Tambun and costing RM150 million, will be completed and launched by year-end by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim, who is also the Tambun MP.

introduced the PRR to provide affordable, quality homes for low-income Malaysians and ensure better living conditions nationwide.
