The government is working closely with all stakeholders to resolve the prolonged delay of the 18km Maju Expressway extension (MEX II) project, says works minister Alexander Nanta Linggi.
Nanta said the project, which aims to connect Putrajaya to KLIA, had stalled because of serious cash flow problems, Berita Harian reported.
“But the good news is that all parties involved, including the finance ministry, the works ministry and the public works department, are working hard to resolve the matter,” he was quoted as saying during a visit to the Bukit Kayu Hitam ICQS complex today.
He said the project developer was also speeding up efforts to secure fresh financing to resume work.
“For now, the issue is still in the resolution phase, so I won’t go into further details,” he said.
Nanta said several key meetings are expected soon, to be chaired by the deputy secretary-general of the works ministry.
“These meetings are expected to determine the next course of action. We will monitor the developments after that,” he said.
It was recently reported that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission arrested four people, including a man with a “Datuk Seri” title, on suspicion of submitting RM360 million worth of false claims over a Klang Valley highway.
Quoting sources, The Edge said the arrests were linked to funds from a RM1.3 billion sukuk issuance for the MEX II project.
Construction for the project began in 2016 and had been due for completion in December 2019.
