Govt respects Rafizi, Nik Nazmi's decision to step down, says Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: The government respects the decision of Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad to resign from their ministerial positions, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim.

said that the decision was a personal one, made in accordance with their individual principles.

“We remain confident that both will continue to serve actively as members of parliament for the wellbeing of the people and the progress of the nation,” he said in a parliamentary written reply.

He added that the Madani government remained strong, backed by the solid support of all component parties within the administration.

“Close cooperation and mutual respect among these parties form the foundation for the continuity of national governance and the implementation of the reform agenda,” he said.

(PH–Tambun) said this in response to Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau), who had asked how the government would ensure cabinet stability following the resignations of Rafizi and Nik Nazmi.

Rafizi stepped down as Economy Minister on June 17 after losing his bid to retain the deputy presidency during the party’s central leadership election on May 23, where he was defeated in a one-on-one contest by former Permatang Pauh MP Anwar.

Nik Nazmi subsequently resigned as Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister, with his resignation taking effect on July 4.
