KUALA LUMPUR: The planned Government Procurement Bill will ensure transparency and integrity in public procurement, including the military assets.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the planned Government Procurement Bill aligns with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim’s call for old methods of government procurement to be stopped because of corruption risks.

“To provide transparency in procurement, we will table the Government Procurement Bill. God willing, the prime minister will table it in Parliament this year,” he said.

Shamsul Azri was speaking after officiating the Integrity Fun Walk 2025 at Dataran DBKL today, which was organised by the Malaysian Institute of Integrity.

The announcement follows recent calls for greater transparency in military procurement. On Saturday, said the procurement of military assets needs to be more transparent.

Last week, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, had warned against the procurement of “rubbish” military assets, including for the Special Forces Regiment (GGK).

Sultan Ibrahim said purchases must be based on the real needs of the user and market price, not on agents’ recommendations.

Meanwhile, Shamsul Azri said the Integrity Fun Walk 2025, which saw the participation of more than 2,000 people, not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but is also part of an effort to cultivate a culture of integrity.
