Govt lodges reports over false Tabung Haji claims


KUALA LUMPUR: The government has lodged reports with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police over videos spreading false narratives about and urging Muslims to withdraw their deposits.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Naim Mokhtar said the matter had been referred to the authorities for a fair investigation.

“I am aware that several videos are circulating which could have an impact, including calls for depositors to withdraw their savings from .

“Such incitement does nothing to support our efforts to safeguard the integrity of .

“The government is monitoring the matter closely and action has been taken, including lodging police reports and filing complaints with the MCMC against videos deemed to be inciteful,” he said during the Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat.

He was responding to a supplementary question from Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa (-Tampin) regarding claims circulating in WhatsApp groups alleging that Tabung Haji is being managed by the Chinese, which he said were part of attempts to construct malicious narratives and false accusations.

Mohd Naim added that the ministry, together with Tabung Haji and related agencies such as TV AlHijrah and IKIM, would continue to conduct awareness campaigns to clarify issues concerning the institution.

“We hope that everyone will cooperate in defending the integrity of Tabung Haji,” he said.
