PUTRAJAYA: The government has never opposed pig farming but stressed that such activities should not be carried out in areas that cause unease among residents.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim clarified that the government’s policy is clear in that it does not prohibit pig farming or the dietary practices of non-Muslims.
Anwar said, however, the location must take into account community sensitivities and public harmony.
“The same applies to pig farming. I agree with the view that it should not be continued in areas that create unease among residents.
“If there is a need, find alternative sites that are farther away that can be considered.
“From a policy standpoint, (we) do not oppose pig farming nor do we prohibit non-Muslims from eating pork,” he said.
