The government will provide temporary housing for families affected by the landslides at Kampung Mook and Kampung Marahang Tuntul in Papar.
Papar MP Armizan Mohd Ali said discussions will be held with Limbahau assemblyman Juil Nuatim to coordinate assistance to the affected families and also with the families themselves to place them either in People’s Housing Programme (PPR) homes or rented properties.
The domestic trade and cost of living minister also said risk assessment will be carried out to assess the level of safety in the affected areas.
“For the time being, we are placing the families at the Kampung Mook and Kampung Marahang Tuntul community centres.
“This is to ensure their safety while waiting for the house repairs to be completed. We will help ease the families’ burdens,” Berita Harian reported him as saying in Papar today.
Yesterday, the Sabah disaster management committee said cash aid of RM1,000 would be given to the head of each family moved to a relief centre and RM10,000 to the family of those who died.
Five people have died so far in two separate landslides yesterday — two victims in Kampung Mook and three in Kampung Marahang Tuntul.
Since the landslides began last Friday, 12 people, including five children, have lost their lives in Sabah.
