Chief Secretary says government’s one-week ultimatum to enforcement leaders shows firm stance against leakages and commitment to faster execution.
PUTRAJAYA: The government’s firmness in giving enforcement agency leaders one week to confirm their readiness to stay or be reassigned sends a clear message against compromise on leakages and governance weaknesses.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the move aligns with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s determination to strengthen integrity and close loopholes in public fund management.
He stated that the ultimatum reinforces the Prime Minister’s January 5 announcement declaring this “the year for faster execution”.
“It means we must ensure compliance with and strengthening of governance,” Shamsul Azri said.
He added that this year will see more enforcement actions to combat corruption, abuse of power, and regulatory non-compliance.
Shamsul Azri was commenting on the Prime Minister’s stern warning during a special address to heads of enforcement departments and agencies involved in combating financial crimes.
The event was organised by the National Anti-Financial Crime Centre (NFCC).
Regarding the one-week period, Shamsul Azri said it demonstrates the government’s resoluteness to act promptly.
“We are (acting) faster, otherwise we (would) give one month. We are doing it very fast,” he said.
He added that enforcement issues and the Prime Minister’s address will be raised at the Special Task Force on Agency Reform (STAR) meeting later today.
“I will bring it up at the STAR meeting and elaborate on what Datuk Seri (the Prime Minister) announced earlier,” he said.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today gave senior enforcement leaders one week to confirm their readiness to stay and shoulder their responsibilities or opt for reassignment to other posts.
