PETALING JAYA: Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar (pic) has hinted that the upcoming Madani Budget 2026 will bring good news not only for civil servants but Malaysians as a whole.

He said the announcement would be made during the budget tabling in Parliament this October.

“There will surely be good news… but I cannot share it yet.

“For civil servants, for the people, this is a Madani government, a government that is good and caring for the people,” he told reporters after officiating the 4th National Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Research Conference here on Thursday (Sept 18).

The Budget 2026 is scheduled to be tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim, who is also the Finance Minister, in the Dewan Rakyat on Oct 10.

Previously, the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) had urged the government to consider granting a one-month salary bonus for civil servants in next year’s budget.

Its president Datuk Dr Adnan Mat said the last time such a bonus was given was in 2012, and the move should be reconsidered given the rising cost of living as well as in recognition of the contributions of civil servants.
