
KAJANG: After serving 13 months and 20 days in Sungai Buloh Prison, the chief executive officer (CEO) of GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISB), Nasiruddin Mohd Ali, the son of the former founder of Al-Arqam and 11 of the company’s top leaders will be released after Friday prayers on Nov 7.
Lawyer Datuk Rosli Kamaruddin, who represented all the accused, stated that although the High Court here sentenced them to 15 months in prison, the offset by the public holiday and weekend period means they can be released immediately starting Friday, reported Sinar Harian.
“They do not need to be taken to Sungai Buloh Prison, instead, all matters will be resolved at the Kajang Prison Court Complex.”
“Once the administrative matters are resolved, they will be released today,” he said. Lawyers Kamal Hisham Jaafar and Muhammad Nor Tamrin were also present.
On Friday, Nasiruddin and 12 male defendants were sentenced to 15 months in prison for being members of an illegal group five years ago.
Meanwhile, Nasiruddin’s wife and eight other female accused were fined RM4,500 each for the same charge.
The female accused was sentenced to seven months in prison if she failed to pay the fine.
