Giant apologises for rice price glitch

KUALA LUMPUR: Giant Malaysia has apologised to its customers and reduced the price of a popular rice brand following complaints on social media that the product was being sold above the prevailing promotional rate.

In a posting on Facebook, the retailer said the issue arose after a promotion by its supplier was not properly communicated to its staff due to internal problems, resulting in the rice being priced higher than the market’s promotional price.

“This was an unintentional mistake, and it led to our selling price being higher than the promotional market price,” it said.

The company said it rectified the issue as soon as it was brought to its attention, reducing the price of the rice from RM55.90 to RM35 with immediate effect.

“At Giant, we believe in fair and transparent pricing, and we are committed to serving our customers, especially MyKasih shoppers,” it said.

The retailer assured customers that it is working to prevent a repeat of such incidents and expressed appreciation for the continued support and trust of Malaysians.
