Gerakan calls emergency meeting after Muhyiddin quits as PN chief


GEORGE TOWN: Gerakan will hold an emergency Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting today to discuss Tan Sri Yassin’s resignation as Perikatan Nasional chairman.

Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau said the meeting would be held at 2pm.

“We will address the implications of ‘s resignation.

“We will also discuss our (Gerakan’s) official position moving forward amid the recent political developments,” he told the New Straits Times.

Earlier today, confirmed his resignation as chairman of PN.

Subsequently, PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Johor PN chief Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal also announced their resignations.

Azmin also quit as PN chief.

Separately, youth leaders from Bersatu, Gerakan, and MIPP have issued a joint statement insisting that the appointment of a new chairman must be made through consensus.

The statement was endorsed by Bersatu Youth chief Muhammad Hilman Idham, Gerakan Youth chief Lee Boon Shian, and MIPP Youth chief Justin Prabakaran.

However, Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden’s name was missing from the document.

There have been rising tensions between Bersatu and over the Perlis political crisis, which saw Bersatu take over the menteri besar’s post from .

Pas has since offered to lead PN.
