, Sept 18 — The Ministry of Education (MOE) has ordered the immediate evacuation of the quarters building near the landslide site at the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) Gaya Campus, Sabah, to ensure the safety of everyone at the campus.

It said in a statement yesterday that several immediate measures have also been taken, including demolishing the affected building blocks to pave the way for new construction.

In addition, the MOE said it had also taken the initiative to rent nearby premises outside the campus so that academic activities could continue without interruption, and that work to rebuild the damaged water tank was also carried out.

It added that no injuries were reported in the incident, which caused damage to the slope and several building blocks that have been closed and uninhabited since last July on the orders of the Public Works Department (JKR) of Sabah.

The MOE also expressed its highest appreciation to the Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, for his concern and for visiting the IPG Gaya Campus yesterday. — Bernama
