PETALING JAYA:

secretary-general Fuziah Salleh was noncommittal when asked whether Yamani Hafez Musa, son of Sabah governor Musa Aman, had joined the party.

Fuziah said the question should be directed to Yamani Hafez Musa. She said despite talk that he had joined , she would respect his right to decide if he wanted to make it public.

“Even though I’m the secretary-general, I respect individual rights. So it’s best to ask him. If he doesn’t want to announce it, that’s his right,” The Star quoted as saying.

In August, Sabah PH chairman Mustapha Sakmud similarly did not answer the question on whether Yamani had joined the party. “You have to ask the person himself. We will announce it later,” the Daily Express quoted him as saying.

PKR deputy president , who was at the same event, said PKR membership applications could be made online. “The right person to ask is our secretary-general,” she was quoted as saying.

Yamani, the eldest son of Sabah governor Musa Aman, is a former MP for Sipitang and a former deputy finance minister.

He won the Sipitang seat on a Barisan Nasional ticket in 2018 and later joined Bersatu. He did not defend the seat in the 2022 elections. However, his name has emerged in recent weeks as a potential PKR candidate for the Sipitang seat.

The seat is currently held by Matbali Musah of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, a member of the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah.

On a separate matter, Fuziah dismissed claims of dissatisfaction among PKR grassroots in Sabah over central leadership involvement in managing the state assembly elections.

She said such allegations stemmed from misunderstandings that have since been resolved.

Fuziah added that she had met branch leaders who were said to have made such claims. “They clarified that it actually came from only one or two persons.”
