KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — A man dramatically rescued after being trapped under a MRT concrete overpass has now been identified by authorities as a suspect in cable theft activities.

The incident, which went viral after video of the rescue spread online, began when the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department’s operations centre received an emergency call at 2.41am today about an individual stuck under a concrete overpass in Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad — directly in front of the TTDI Fire and Rescue Station.

Two fire stations responded with a team of 12 firefighters and two support vehicles.

Operations commander Khairul Izwan Khairudin said the man was found trapped under the MRT concrete overpass and was rescued before being brought to safety.

The rescuers later handed over the 30-year-old Malaysian to the police for further action.
