'From the bottom of my heart, thank you,' says PM to civil servants

: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ibrahim has reminded civil servants of the need to continually improve public service, warning against complacency with current achievements.

, who is also the finance minister, said the success of national development depends on the commitment of leaders and officials in fulfilling their responsibilities, reaching out to the grassroots, returning to villages, and addressing issues at their root.

He said development must be inclusive, combining grassroots engagement with productivity and additional initiatives.

“At the monthly Prime Minister’s Departments assembly this morning, I highlighted the constant pressure to improve our efforts, drawing inspiration from the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad SAW on itqan fil amal (perfection in work).

“Are we performing our duties to the best of our abilities?

“Are we fulfilling our responsibilities sincerely, regardless of rank, awards or honours?

“Do our actions and ideas genuinely elevate the nation and support those left behind?

“These questions touch upon values, accountability, and ethical responsibility,” he said in his speech at the Development Symposium and National Development Award 2025.

He said that national development is not only about infrastructure or technology but also the comprehensive development of individuals who uphold strong values and morals.

“While technology and infrastructure are critical for progress, humanity, integrity, empathy and ethical principles must not be neglected.

“If a country seeks progress, it must master new technologies, protect its environment and generate growth across multiple sectors.

“However, we must always remember that harm arises when we ignore human values,” he said.

Although Malaysia is modest in terms of population and economic size, said it has achieved significant progress thanks to political stability and effective collaboration between political leadership and the civil service.

Citing Malaysia’s strong economic performance, he noted record-high investment levels, the lowest unemployment rate in years, and one of the region’s strongest-performing currencies.

He cautioned, however, that the challenge lies in preserving these achievements and not taking progress for granted.

“Imagine half a million civil servants, united with renewed spirit, rejecting corruption, abuse, and divisive politics, and focusing instead on building strong families and a strong nation.

“If that spirit arises, the country will rise beyond imagination, and Malaysia’s success will surpass any countries it was compared to.

“Alhamdulillah, I am proud to work with the civil service team. Through your dedication, you are helping make our country better.

“From the bottom of my heart, I wish to express my gratitude to all of you,” he said.

Present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
