The national registration department is offering free replacements for faulty MyKad chips at all offices nationwide from tomorrow until Oct 7.
This is in line with the targeted RON95 petrol subsidy under the BUDI95 programme announced today.
Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said based on the average number of MyKads replaced over the last two months, around 43,000 applications for faulty chip replacements were recorded every month.
“As such, (the offer of free faulty MyKad chip replacements) is expected to cost the Madani government around RM714,660, including other related costs.
“I would like to emphasise the Madani government’s intention to bear the full cost (of replacements) during this period to ensure public access to this subsidy is not jeopardised by technical MyKad issues.
“I call on all Malaysians to ensure your MyKad is in good condition as it is not only an identification document, but also your key to various government facilities, including the BUDI95 targeted fuel subsidy,” he said in a statement today.
Earlier today, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the price of RON95 petrol would be lowered from RM2.05 to RM1.99 per litre effective Sept 30 under the BUDI95 programme.
Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said non-citizens and large corporations will not be eligible for the new RON95 price as the subsidies are meant for Malaysians with personal driving licences.
“For those who are ineligible, the price of RON95 will be RM2.60 per litre. For Malaysians, it will be RM1.99 per litre,” he said at the ministry’s monthly assembly in Putrajaya.
