PETALING JAYA:
The government, through the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN), will offer free higher education to 5,800 students from low-income families enrolled in public universities next year.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the initiative will involve an allocation of RM120 million.
He also said PTPTN loan repayments for students from low- and middle-income families who graduate with first-class honours degrees from public universities will also be waived, benefitting about 6,000 borrowers, at a cost of RM90 million.
“Meanwhile, travel restrictions will be imposed on borrowers who are employed abroad and financially capable but continue to neglect their loan repayments,” he said when tabling Budget 2026 in the Dewan Rakyat.
