KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 — A late afternoon storm that struck the capital around 4pm today caused widespread damage and disruption across several parts of the city, affecting flats, businesses, and a university campus.

Strong winds and heavy rain pounded several areas including flats in Pantai Dalam, The Five Damansara, and the Universiti Malaya (UM) campus, leaving behind fallen trees, damaged roofs, and flash flooding in low-lying areas.

Communications Minister Datuk Fadzil, who is also the Lembah Pantai MP, visited residents at the Seri Cempaka flats on Jalan Pantai Dalam to assess the damage.

He was informed that 30 vehicles were damaged by debris from detached roofing material.

According to several reports, fallen trees were also reported along Jalan Pantai Murni as a result of the storm.

At The Five Damansara, several vehicles were damaged by falling trees.

Meanwhile, at Universiti Malaya, fallen trees blocked the entrance to the campus from both the Kuala Lumpur and Damansara directions.

As of the time of writing, no official status report has been issued by the authorities.
