SUKAU: Former Sukau assemblyman Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman has left Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) and joined Warisan, claiming growing support for the party in the east coast constituency ahead of the state election.
His move was announced during an event in Batu Putih, Sukau, which was attended by Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
Saddi said a large turnout at the event on Saturday (Nov 1) reflected a “change in sentiment” among voters who are seeking a new government.
“Based on the crowd today, it shows there is change among the people. I am confident that for the first time, Warisan can offer a strong fight in Sukau,” he said.
“Support keeps growing. Before nomination, and after nomination, more will join us.”
He alleged the government had failed to resolve basic rural issues such as roads, electricity, and water.
“When the Sabah-first slogan no longer aligned with reality, I had to return to a party that stays with its mission,” he said, adding that many supporters from other parties were also present.
Saddi also likened a mineral-related issue to a “1MDB-level scandal”, claiming it had shaken public confidence.
Meanwhile, Shafie said the participation of supporters from different political backgrounds reflected a broader grassroots momentum.
“We are seeing supporters from Gagasan Rakyat, Umno, and PKR joining today. It shows a trend of uniting the people across different groups,” he said separately.
Sukau is located along the Kinabatangan River and is one of three state seats under the Kinabatangan parliamentary constituency, traditionally regarded as a Barisan Nasional-Umno stronghold.
