KUALA LUMPUR: A form two student will be charged today for punching and threatening a teacher at a secondary school in Kajang on Monday.
The 14-year old is expected to be hauled to the magistrate’s court to face charges of voluntarily causing hurt. The offence, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, carries a one-year jail term and a fine not exceeding RM2,000 or both upon.
The student will be escorted to the courtroom by police from the Kajang district police headquarters after a two-day remand following his arrest.
In a viral video, the student, who was clad in a school tracksuit uniform, can be seen in a confrontation with a teacher.
The teacher, in his police report, claimed he was punched and threatened by the student within the school grounds.
Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abd Yusof was reported to have said that preliminary investigations showed the incident stemmed from the student skipping physical education class, during which he was supposed to be on the field.
Naazron had said after being reprimanded, the student became dissatisfied and engaged in a fight with the teacher.
He said the student punched the teacher in the face and issued threats in the presence of several other teachers and students.
