SEREMBAN: A Form Four student pleaded not guilty today to a charge of raping a 14-year-old schoolmate in a classroom at a school in Ampangan on May 2.

The 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named as he is a minor, was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code before magistrate Saiful Sayoti in a closed court proceeding.

If convicted, he faces a prison term of between five and 20 years, and is also liable to whipping.

The accused, who was unrepresented, entered a plea of not guilty.

Deputy public prosecutor P. Rubini offered bail at RM7,000 with one surety and additional conditions.

However, the accused, who was unrepresented, requested a lower bail amount.

His father, a retired soldier, posted bail.

The court later set bail at RM4,000 with additional conditions that the accused must not disturb the victim or any prosecution witnesses.
