
KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign leaders, including Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, have started arriving at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre for the 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits.
He arrived in a Mercedes Maybach at 8.30am and was accompanied by his son, Prince Abdul Mateen.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was the first to arrive and welcomed leaders at the venue of the high level global meeting.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney arrived at 8.11am and was welcomed by Anwar.
This marks his first visit to Malaysia since taking office in March.
This was followed by the arrival of European Council President António Costa at 8.14am and Timor Leste President Francisco Xavier do Amaral.
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto also arrived in a Mercedes Benz at 8.20am.
Other leaders arrived in a BMW with number plates bearing the names of their respective countries.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva arrived at 8.24am wearing a maroon tie similar to Anwar‘s.
His arrival was followed by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The Philippines President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr arrived after Ramaphosa.
The Philippines will chair Asean in 2026.
