KUALA LUMPUR: Floodwaters in four states are beginning to recede, with the number of evacuees in temporary relief centres (PPS) falling to 4,062 this afternoon, down from 4,604 this morning.
In Perlis, conditions are steadily improving, with evacuee numbers dropping to 288 and one more PPS closing as of 4pm, compared to 331 people in four centres earlier today.
According to the Perlis Disaster Management Secretariat, three PPS remain operational in Padang Besar and Arau.
In Perak, flood conditions have eased, with 3,002 people from 872 families still sheltering in 19 PPS across five districts, down from 3,156 people from 927 families this morning.
The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat reported that Hilir Perak district continued to have the highest number of evacuees at 1,471, followed by Bagan Datuk (830), Manjung (438), Perak Tengah (248), and Larut, Matang and Selama (15).
In Selangor, the number of evacuees fell to 740 people from 234 families this afternoon, down from 993 individuals from 291 families this morning.
The Department of Social Welfare’s (JKM) Infobencana website reported that the number of operational PPS had also decreased to nine, located in Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam, down from 19 earlier today.
In Pahang, all PPS in Bera district have been closed. Only 32 evacuees from seven families remain in two PPS across the state, compared to 124 people from 34 families earlier today.
JKM’s Infobencana portal reported that, as of 3.10pm, 25 individuals from six families were sheltering in a single PPS in Maran, while a family of seven remains in a PPS in Kuantan. – Bernama
