ALOR STAR: Floodwaters continue to inundate seven districts in Kedah, but the situation is showing signs of improvement as the number of evacuees dropped slightly to 1,934 overnight.
According to the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, the evacuees consist of 602 families currently housed at 19 temporary relief centres (PPS) across the affected districts.
Kulim remains the worst-hit district, with 1,294 evacuees from 372 families seeking shelter at nine PPS — down from 1,383 recorded at midnight.
Baling reported the second-highest number, with 291 victims from 119 families accommodated at four centres. In Pendang, 112 evacuees from 32 families are staying at one PPS, while Pokok Sena has 102 victims from 32 families in a single centre.
Padang Terap recorded 34 evacuees, and Kubang Pasu has 23.
Five rivers were reported at dangerous levels — Sungai Padang Terap and Sungai Laka in Kubang Pasu, Sungai Pendang and Sungai Titi Kerbau in Pendang, and Sungai Perik in Padang Terap.
Meanwhile, Sungai Bata in Kubang Pasu was at warning level, while Sungai Chepir in Sik remained at alert level.
Weather conditions have improved across most districts, with the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) forecasting clear skies throughout the day.
