KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in eight states across Peninsular Malaysia continues to show a decline in evacuees, except Pahang, which recorded a slight increase as of 8am Monday (Dec 1).
In PAHANG, the number of evacuees rose to 610 people from 206 families, from 585 people (202 families) the night before.
Temerloh still recorded the highest number, with 223 people (77 families) housed in four temporary relief centres.
Other affected districts in the state are Lipis, Bera, Jerantut and Kuantan.
Meanwhile, according to the official PublicInfoBanjir website, the following rivers have recorded readings above the danger level: Sungai Pahang at Sungai Triang (Railway Bridge), Bera (35.12m); Sungai Pahang at Waterfront, Bera (28.76m); and Sungai Pahang at Lubuk Paku, Pekan (19.12m).
Seven other states continue to show a decrease, including TERENGGANU, where evacuees dropped to 1,752 people (552 families) from 2,018 people (650 families) the night before.
Based on the Social Welfare Department’s InfoBencana, 50 relief centres remain open in Kuala Terengganu, Kuala Nerus, Setiu, Marang, Dungun, Hulu Terengganu and Kemaman.
In SELANGOR, 2,707 people (752 families) are still being housed in 30 relief centres across Kuala Selangor, Sepang, Kuala Langat, and Sabak Bernam, a slight decrease from the previous night’s 2,789 evacuees (777 families).
In NEGRI SEMBILAN, InfoBencana reported that the number of evacuees sheltered in two Port Dickson relief centres has fallen to 79 people (44 families) from last night’s count of 89 people (49 families).
In PERAK, the situation continues to improve as the number of evacuees has decreased further to 4,766 people (1,447 families) in 30 relief centres across five districts. Last night, there were 4,840 people (1,486 families).
In KEDAH, the numbers continued to decline to 264 people (83 families) from 342 evacuees (104 families) last night.
They remain housed in the relief centres at SK Padang Pekan and SK Tunjang.
In PERLIS, the numbers also continued to decrease, falling from 3,009 people last night to 2,523 in the morning.
They are putting up at 12 relief centres in Padang Besar, Kangar and Arau.
Meanwhile, in KELANTAN, Pasir Mas remains the only affected district. As of this morning, 894 evacuees (305 families) are sheltering in four relief centres.
Water levels in most major rivers are normal or falling. The exception is Sungai Pergau in Kampung Lawar, Jeli, which remains at a dangerous level with a reading of 99.93m. – Bernama
