TAIPING:

Flood waters displaced several bodies and coffins from the graves at a Muslim cemetery near Bukit Gantang today.

Tombstones in the Kuala Trong cemetery area were also dislodged, said Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal.

He said villagers helped to rebury most of the bodies that were displaced.

“The cemetery area will be repaired immediately. I will discuss further with the residents and mosque committees,” he said after visiting flood victims at the Simpang relief centre.

Syed Hussin said flood victims from the constituency, comprising the elderly with chronic illnesses and mothers with young babies, will be housed at the Taiping Perdana Hotel here.

He said the condition at the relief centre were very conducive.

A total of 2,496 residents from 857 families had been evacuated to 24 relief centres in the Larut, Matang and Selama district, and in Kerian, Manjung and Perak Tengah.
