Flood evacuees in Perak and Kedah drop to 1,442 as water levels recede, though Sungai Pendang remains above danger level.
KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Perak and Kedah continues to show gradual improvement with a reduction in the number of displaced individuals.
Evacuees housed in temporary relief centres have decreased to 1,442 this morning from 1,514 people recorded last night.
Perak has seen its flood victim count drop to 437 individuals from 128 families compared to 467 people from 136 families the previous evening.
All affected residents in Perak are currently accommodated across six operational relief centres.
The Perak State Disaster Management Committee noted a minor increase in victims within the Larut, Matang, and Selama district which now hosts 38 individuals.
Manjung and Kerian districts maintain stable numbers with 247 and 152 flood victims respectively.
Kedah has also experienced a decline in flood victims with current figures showing 1,005 people from 282 families.
This represents a decrease from the 1,047 individuals from 311 families who were seeking shelter last night.
Kedah’s Disaster Management Committee confirmed that affected areas are limited to Pendang, Kota Setar, and Pokok Sena districts.
All Kedah flood victims are being housed in six separate relief centres throughout the state.
Pendang district records the highest number of victims with 557 people from 156 families currently displaced.
Kota Setar follows with 361 victims from 102 families while Pokok Sena has 87 individuals from 24 families.
The Public Infobanjir website reports that Sungai Pendang has exceeded the danger level with a current reading of 3.42 metres. – Bernama
