PAPAR: A turtle found stranded on the beach in Kampung Santing Pengalat Besar was rescued by firefighters earlier this evening.

According to a statement from the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, a team from the Papar fire station was dispatched after receiving a distress call from a member of the public at 7.44pm.

Operation commander Dahlan Zainuddin said the turtle appeared weak and was found stranded along the shoreline.

“Firefighters, with the help of members of the public, used a cloth to carefully lift the turtle before releasing it back into its natural habitat,” he said.

The operation, which involved three firefighters and a Vigo truck, concluded at 8.45pm.
