Firefighters forced to borrow bikes to reach fatal car fire at Pantai Sungai Lurus

BATU PAHAT, Sept 25 — An individual was killed after the vehicle the victim was in caught fire at Pantai Sungai Lurus here yesterday.

Senior Operations Commander, Fire and Rescue Assistant Superintendent Norhisham Abdul Talib said the department received a call at 4.51 pm and eight firefighters from the Rengit Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were dispatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the operations team confirmed that a car was on fire. However, the fire engine could not access the beach area due to the narrow access road.

“The firefighters had to use the public’s motorcycles to reach the location, which was about two kilometres away.

“One victim was found inside the vehicle. Initial firefighting efforts were carried out using water drawn from a nearby river using buckets,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Meanwhile, Batu Pahat district police chief ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said efforts are underway to identify the victim, as well as to determine the cause of the fire. — Bernama
