KUALA LUMPUR: A forest fire broke out in Taman Seri Timah, Balakong, on Thursday evening, prompting an immediate response from the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM).

JBPM Operations Division assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the department received an emergency call at 7.02pm and deployed a team of 14 personnel from the Bandar Tun Hussein Onn Fire and Rescue station. The team arrived at the scene at 7.25pm.

The fire involves a forested hilltop area spanning approximately 1.2 hectares.

“Three appliances were used in the operation, namely a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit.

“The operation was also assisted by personnel from the Seri Kembangan Fire Station and two volunteer fire brigades (PBS), namely from Balakong and Serdang,” he said when contacted last night.

No casualties were reported, and firefighting operations are still under way.— BERNAMA
