KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 — A teenage girl and three men pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court in George Town today to a charge of committing gang robbery against a man at a condominium in Jelutong last week, MalaysiaGazette reported.
The accused — Muhammad Loqman Nasri, 22, Abdul Hakim Mohd Amin, 22, Muhammad Amsyar Md Asraf, 20, and a 15-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons — entered their pleas after the charge was read jointly before Judge Juraidah Abbas.
According to the charge sheet, they allegedly committed gang robbery against Muhammad Syazwan Aiman Muhammad Shahrul, 21, at a rented unit in Urban Suites, Jelutong, at about 12.30am on September 5.
They are accused of stealing an iPhone 13 Pro Max and RM582 belonging to the victim, comprising RM100 in cash and RM482 through the Touch ‘n Go e-wallet.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Puteri Nor Nadia Mohamed Iqbal prosecuted the case under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction, MalaysiaGazette reported.
During proceedings, Puteri Nor Nadia offered bail of RM8,000 for each accused with one surety.
However, all four appealed for lower bail, citing personal circumstances.
The teenager sought minimal bail on the grounds that she was no longer in school and her mother could not afford the amount. Abdul Hakim is unemployed.
Loqman, a lorry driver, asked for a lower sum as he has to support his wife, a homemaker, their two-year-old child, and his parents.
Amsyar, a diploma student, told the court his parents were divorced, he lives with six other siblings, and his father is jobless.
After hearing their appeals, the court set bail at RM4,000 each with one surety, with the additional condition that they must not harass prosecution witnesses.
The case has been fixed for mention on October 17 for document submission and appointment of defence counsel, according to MalaysiaGazette.
