Father suspects bullying behind university student's fatal fall from Setapak condo

KUALA LUMPUR: A father believes that his daughter, who died after falling from the 22nd floor of a condominium in Setapak last Wednesday, may have been a victim of bullying.

The 22-year-old private university student was found dead on the ground floor of the building around 8am.

The man, who wished to be identified as Jeff Ho, in his 50s, said he received a call about the incident at 8.45am before rushing to the scene.

“My daughter had been staying at the condominium with her friends for the past two years, while I lived in Puchong.

“I was shocked when I received a call from the condominium management informing me that my daughter had fallen from the 22nd floor.

“Her friends told me that she was mentally bullied by individuals at her university and that she had been under pressure due to disagreements with her peers,” he told reporters when met at the Wangsa Maju district police headquarters.

Ho said he has lodged a police report after suspecting his daughter was a victim of bullying.

The businessman added that his second child had previously confided in her elder sister and younger brother about the emotional stress she was experiencing.

“My daughter was once saved by a security guard when she allegedly attempted to jump from her residence the week before the incident.

“I hope the authorities will carry out a thorough investigation into this case. I do not want anyone else to become a victim,” he said.

The victim’s body has been sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem.

Meanwhile, Wangsa Maju district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Lazim Ismail, when contacted, said an official statement on the case will be issued soon.
