A man whose two young children drowned after their parked car rolled into Sungai Linggi in Port Dickson wept in the Seremban sessions court today as he pleaded for bail to visit their graves.
Abdul Rahman Mahmud, 46, who was unrepresented, earlier pleaded not guilty before judge Surit Badin to a charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder over the deaths of the two children, aged six and eight, Harian Metro reported.
He was alleged to have committed the offence at about 11.45am at the mouth of Sungai Linggi in Tanjung Agas on Sept 4.
The charge, framed under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code, provides for imprisonment of up to 30 years and a fine, upon conviction.
“I beg the court… since my children’s death, I have not been able to visit their graves. I only hope to be given bail, that is enough for me,” Rahman was quoted as saying during the proceedings.
Deputy public prosecutor M Pusppa opposed bail, saying there was a risk that the accused might abscond, which would complicate the prosecution’s case.
She also requested a new date for case mention pending the forensic, chemical and Puspakom reports.
The court rejected Rahman’s plea and fixed Nov 10 for case mention, the submission of documents, and the appointment of counsel.
