Father forgives driver after UniSZA student killed in Kuala Terengganu crash

KUALA TERENGGANU: Mazli Yusoh, 51 has calmly accepted an apology from the family of the Honda Jazz driver involved in a crash that claimed the life of his daughter, Syakirah Hanan, 25, at midday today.

Mazli, who is a teacher at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Putra, Besut, was visited by the family while waiting for the post-mortem process of his late daughter at the compound of the Forensic Department of Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (HSNZ) here this afternoon.

“Yes, they came to apologise for what happened. I forgive them; after all, they are not at fault. In , we are obliged to forgive when someone comes to ask for forgiveness.

“What happened is all fated. Allah has decreed it. That is from the perspective of ‘hukum’.

“Worldly laws must also be followed … worldly laws such as human negligence and so on, but that is another matter … from the perspective of religious law, we accept it because when the time comes, we will die.

“I have no problem forgiving because it was not his fault either,” he said when met at the compound of the HSNZ Forensic Department here.

In the incident at the traffic light junction of Jalan Kemajuan, Bukit Kecil, at 1.38pm today, a Perodua Viva driven by Syakirah Hanan, who was also a UniSZA student, was hit by a Honda Jazz driven by a man coming from the opposite direction as the deceased turned right as soon as the traffic light turned green.

The man, aged about 32 and from Kampung Bukit Cempaka, Kepong, here, was said to be travelling from Jalan Kemajuan to return to his village.

The strong impact caused the victim to be trapped in her crushed car.

It is understood that the man suffered serious injuries, including a fractured left arm and neck, and is still receiving treatment at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (HSNZ).
