Family shareholders move to unseat Greenyield CEO

KUALA LUMPUR: Shareholders of Greenyield Bhd have called for an extraordinary general meeting to remove group chief executive officer (CEO) Tham Kin-On from the board, in a move that could reshape the firm’s family-linked leadership.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the company said it received the requisition on Sept 8 from seven shareholders who collectively hold at least 10 per cent of the company’s issued shares with voting rights.

The requisitionists are Tham Chong Sing, Tham Foo Choon, Tham Fau Sin, Chew Kee Foo, Foong Sai Cheong, DKIC Capital Sdn Bhd and Voon Sze Lin.

Several of them are part of the founding Tham family, which has long held substantial stakes and leadership positions in the company.

Foo Choon, for instance, is Greenyield’s deputy non-executive chairman, while Chong Sing and Fau Sin are also deemed substantial shareholders, according to the company’s website.

The proposed resolutions seek to oust Kin-On as director and appoint three replacements — Tham Kinyiq, Tham Kin Wai and Chong Sin Hao — all of whom have consented to the positions.

Kin-On, 37, was re-designated as CEO in February this year. He is the son of non-executive chairman Tham Foo Keong and nephew of Foo Choon.

“The board of directors will seek legal advice in relation to the Notice of Requisition and make the necessary announcements on the matter accordingly,” Greenyield said in the filing.

No reasons were disclosed for the proposed removal.

Greenyield, based in Kajang, , manufactures and supplies agricultural products and systems for the plantation sector, specialising in rubber tapping systems, fertilisers and polymer-based products.
