KUALA BERANG: The tragic passing of Suzaimah Che Azis, 34, in a road accident yesterday has left her family in deep mourning.
Suzaimah was travelling in a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) with her fiance Hassan Shazali, 52, when the vehicle plunged into a ravine at Km52, Jalan Kuala Jeneris–Sungai Gawi–Aring (Bukit Kawah), resulting in the death of both occupants.
Suzaimah’s youngest sister, Siti Azliana, 33, said that her late sister had chosen black as the theme colour for her wedding, which was scheduled for Dec 25.
The family had been preparing the wedding together, with each member sponsoring part of the offerings.
Azliana, who was in Meru, Klang, rushed to Hulu Terengganu upon hearing the tragic news. She said she had been in frequent contact with her sister in recent days to finalise the wedding arrangements.
“After Maghrib prayers, our mother, Fauziah Mahmud, 58, informed me that my sister had been in an accident and had passed away. My sister’s wish to include the colour black, including in the wedding cake, will not be fulfilled. The outfits prepared for the wedding will now be worn at her memorial ceremony,” she said at the Forensic Unit of Hulu Terengganu Hospital (HHT).
Fauziah said she learned of the accident immediately after Maghrib prayers when contacted by the police.
She said that Suzaimah, the seventh of nine siblings, had previously been married and had three children aged 15, 12, and 7, from whom she had been separated for over a year.
The family said Suzaimah had been running a school canteen for 14 years and had gone to Pantai Penarik, Setiu, to enjoy deep-fried seafood before the accident.
They last spoke to her on Thursday, and she usually informed them whenever she went out.
The bodies of Suzaimah and Hassan are expected to be buried following post-mortem examinations at HHT.
Suzaimah will be laid to rest at the Kampung Lebir Muslim Cemetery, while Hassan’s remains will be taken to Kedai Menanti, Pasir Puteh, Kelantan, for burial.
