PETALING JAYA: The FA of Malaysia (FAM) has finally broken its silence on the sudden exit of its president, Datuk Joehari Ayub.

FAM acting president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi said at a press conference today: “This was his (Joehari’s personal choice. I cannot answer why or how because it’s is his own decision.”

Yusoff, in the same breath, repeated several times that there was nothing unusual about Joehari’s departure just six months after his election.

He confirmed that the FAM executive committee, on Wednesday, unanimously accepted Joehari’s resignation.

Yusoff described things as business as usual and urged the football community to “move on”.

“It’s not about being afraid. The answer is the same, we accepted his resignation,” Yusoff said.

Yet, the answer from Yusoff today has not shed any light on Joehari’s sudden resignation.

Yusoff dismissed speculation of “hidden hands” at play in Joehari’s exit and went on to explain what would happen next after Joehari’s resignation.

“According to the statutes, once the president’s resignation is accepted, the first executive committee meeting must officially record it. All must agree, and then they will decide who will act as president until the next congress. This means until next year. When exactly, I’m not sure,” he said.

This means Yusoff will serve as FAM president for about six to seven months, as the congress is scheduled to be held in March 2026.

However, Yusoff’s “clear the air” press conference today has done little to clear the air. Expect Malaysian fans to continue speculating on conspiracy theories at FAM.
