JOHOR BARU: Failure to maintain unity within Pakatan Harapan could open the door for Perikatan Nasional to gain control of Johor, says Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).
Its secretary-general Muhammad Faiz Fadzil said cohesion within the coalition must be preserved to prevent Perikatan from capitalising on any cracks to win public support.
“Perikatan is not really a threat in Johor, but if we fail to uphold unity and do not resolve matters properly, we could be giving Perikatan a chance.
“That is why I remind Johor Amanah members and leaders to safeguard unity and turn it into our strength so that Perikatan cannot win in Johor,” he said at a press conference after the Johor Amanah Convention at a hotel here on Saturday (Sept 27).
Faiz pointed out that Perikatan’s weakness was clear as the coalition could not even name a candidate for prime minister.
“In Pakatan, our prime minister is Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and in Amanah, of course, it would be our party president, but PAS cannot even put forward its president as the prime minister candidate.
“If they cannot even agree on a prime minister, how can they govern the country? So why would Johoreans want to accept such a coalition?” he said.
He added that Johor, as a developed state, requires capable leadership instead of coalitions that play on racial sentiments.
“Johor must continue moving forward. We cannot let the state’s progress stall just because they are unable to govern.
“I believe racial politics will not gain traction in Johor. What matters is that we work hard and defend our unity,” he said.
