KUALA LUMPUR: Activist and graphic artist Reza has been arrested by federal police today in connection with two social media postings on Facebook involving the Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim better known as TMJ.

His lawyer, Rajsurian Pillai, confirmed that was summoned to Bukit Aman yesterday after receiving a notice under Section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code to attend questioning this morning.

Rajsurian said arrived at the Bukit Aman federal police headquarters at 9.30am today accompanied by lawyers Yohendra Nadarajan and himself.

“Investigations are being conducted over two Facebook postings involving TMJ. Fahmi was called in under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA),” he said.

Rajsurian said police had seized Fahmi’s mobile phone as part of the investigation process, and that officers recorded his statement during the questioning session.

At 10.20am, Fahmi was formally arrested by the investigation team.

“We are now working on efforts to secure his release on police bail,” Rajsurian said.

Fahmi had earlier been summoned to assist in investigations into the same issue and had complied with the order to be present for questioning this morning.

Police have not issued an official statement on the arrest.

Fahmi, widely known for his political artwork and satirical graphics, has faced previous investigations over similar content posted on social media.
