Fahmi: New KL Tower operator won't bear old liabilities

KUALA LUMPUR: The new concessionaire for Kuala Lumpur Tower, LSH Service Master Sdn Bhd (LSHSM), will not assume any liabilities arising from the previous operator.

Communications Minister Datuk Fadzil said LSHSM’s appointment represented a new commercial arrangement following a subsequent Request for Proposal.

“This follows the expiry of the concession period under Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn Bhd (MKLSB), which automatically ended in March, in accordance with the concession agreement and the interim agreements in force,” he said in a written parliamentary reply today.

He was responding to Nordin Ahmad Ismail (PN-Lumut), who enquired whether the original liabilities of MKLSB would be assumed by the new concessionaire.

LSHSM has been granted a 20-year concession, commencing on April 1, to manage the government-owned telecommunications tower after MKLSB’s concession expired on March 31.

A lawsuit filed by MKLSB and its parent company, Hydroshoppe Sdn Bhd, seeking RM1 billion in damages over the termination of the KL Tower operating agreement, was subsequently rejected by the Court of Appeal.
