PUTRAJAYA, Oct 23 — Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek today said she takes calls for her resignation as motivation to improve her performance.
She said that she had to face all kinds of criticisms when she first became a politician and has learnt her lessons, The Star reported.
“I take calls for my resignation as a call to do better,” she was quoted as saying during a media briefing here.
“I have my own weaknesses but I am focused on doing my best.”
Fadhlina said the Education Ministry will continue working to improve and that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had advised her to remain patient, noting he faced greater challenges when he held the same portfolio.
Her remarks came after a group of NGOs under the banner Sekretariat Sekolah Selamat submitted a memorandum to Fadhlina outside Parliament yesterday urging the ministry to introduce mental wellbeing and emotional intelligence education following recent violent incidents in schools.
Activist Ain Husniza Saiful Nizam, representing the group, said the proposed module must be made compulsory from Year One to Form Five and cover areas such as emotional literacy, empathy, stress management, bullying prevention and conflict resolution skills.
The memorandum also called for comprehensive sex education, a safe schools commission under Parliament, and laws to protect students from harassment and abuse, news portal Free Malaysia Today reported.
